Many people start a Business Process Management project by modelling the processes as they stand today, the “as is”. This reflects what should happen in your organisation and what you think happens, but how can you be sure that the process you have mapped reflects what actually takes place?
BPM|Protos includes Process Mining. The software interrogates the system logs, audit trails and management information of your current line of business applications and automatically builds a process model in BPM|Protos from your real data. Process mining then runs the data over a period of time, presents an animation and collates the data in a graphical format so that you can see what actually took place over a period of time.
You may add any activities which are not covered by the data, for example parts of the process which are performed manually not using any computer system and then run the data again to get a true reflection of your performance.
You can quickly see any bottlenecks and non-compliances, you can also see what parts of the process are under used. You may analyse what activities took place, in what order, how long they took and how many times they occurred over the period.
You may then adjust the model to iron out any problems and roll the data forward to provide a simulation of how you may perform in the future.
This is an invaluable new concept which arms you with the accurate information you need to go ahead with interviews and discussions with your colleagues to model the current processes and design new processes to reflect how you want your business to operate in the future.
